Just about any job these days requires you to provide a cover letter, and if you want to stand out from the many other applicants applying for the same position, it’s important to follow a few tips.
1) Explain your purpose
The beginning of your cover letter should start out by explaining why you are creating it. You’ll want to state the position you are applying for and give a brief introduction of why you are interested in it. You should also include a bullet list of the exact qualifications you have that can be used to help you excel in the position.
2) Use images and graphs
An excellent way to spruce up your cover letter is by using images and graphs. You could even turn the entire letter into an infographic; this would be especially valuable if you are applying for a position in the graphic design industry.
3) Research the company
Not every position is the same, even if it has the same title. For example, an HR specialist working in the education industry will likely have different tasks than an HR specialist working in the engineering industry. This is why it’s of the utmost importance to research the company and position to ensure you are outlining the skills you have that will best align with the position you are applying for.
4) Forget generic phrases
If it sounds like something that every other applicant will have on a cover letter, then it’s best to reword a phrase in your own words. Generic phrases make it seem like you simply printed out a cover letter from the Internet, which shows poor initiative.
